Ben Shelton was almost forced to go pro after his accelerated success which included a victory over(at the time) the #5 ranked player in the world, Casper Ruud. The following months, he achieved many milestones. For example, being the youngest player in history to win three Challenger titles in three straight weeks.
He reached the top 100 in November, climbing more than 4590 sports in the rankings, which ultimately earned him a wild card into the Australian Open main draw.
But success is not a rare feeling for the 20-year-old American. He helped his team win the SEC regular season trophy as well as the NCAA national championship, only as a sophomore, by the way.
Besides the victory over Ruud, he has defeated some other top ranked players like Lorenzo Sonego and Jordan Thompson. And yes, not that thiis all that matters, but at the end of the day, you want to know where you stand compare to the resort of the tour players, and Shelton has shown that he is here to stay.
Even though 2023 will be his first full year as a pro, I would not be surprised if he takes this great momentum from 2022 and reaches the top 50, or top 30 in the world.
Go Gators.
