Ostapenko has one of the craziest head to head stats in women’s tennis. 

Beating #2 ranked player in the world in all their first six meetings. 

The first time both players faced each other was in 2019 in Birmingham; the result very one-sided. 6-0 6-2 for Jelena.

They met again at Indian wells in 2021 with a score of 6-4 6-3.

In 2022 they played a close three set match in the round of 16,  but the result still went in Ostapenko’s favor; 4-6 6-1 7-6

At the 2023 US Open, Jelena didn’t care that iga was the number one player in the world and beat her 3-6 6-3 6-1, coming back from a set down like in their Dubai match.

2025 started the right way for Ostapenko, beating Swiatek 6-3 6-1 in Doha. 

As if a 5-0 head-to-head wasn’t enough, they faced for a sixth time in the quarterfinals of the Stuttgart Open. Somehow Ostapenko did it again, she played aggressively and didnt miss any chances. The score being 6-3 3-6 6-2

No one could’ve describe this victory better than her: “She’s a great clay court player as well. But you know, I won French Open. So I can say the same thing about myself.”
